Obituary for
Meadowlands Race Horses
Sounds of a bagpipe kicked off the dedication ceremony that was held on Monday, April 29, 2002 at WOODRUFF MEMORIAL PARK and PEACEFUL PASTURES PET CEMETERY to unveil the 12 ton granite and bronze monument honoring the harness racing horses that were killed in a fire at the Meadows Race track in Washington PA. The ceremony, led by track chaplain Pastor Joe DiDonato was hosted by the partners of Woodruff Family Services.
The horses were tragically killed July 6, 2001 in an early morning blaze that quickly destroyed a barn and evaded the heroic efforts of the firefighters and maintenance crew who worked feverishly to extinguish the deadly flames
The ceremony concluded with the final call of the 28 horses’ names read by long-time track announcer Roger Huston. Those who attended were able to pay their respects by placing a carnation at the foot of the memorial.
