Obituary for Smokey Duffey

Smokey Duffey
Smokey Duffey was fondly known as "Smokey Smokes," "Smokers," "Smokey Baby," "Hey, Big Guy," and "Wow, Look at That Head!" Initially, Smokey was a best friend to a young boy who had to give him up. Soon after, he became a best friend to a bigger boy who was with him until he passed. On September 4, 2013, we became Smokey's family. As soon as we saw his picture on the website of the Humane Society, we knew that he needed us as much as we needed him. We were suffering from "Empty Paws Syndrome," and, at eight years old, he was suffering from many health problems. Even so, he was the sweetest, gentlest, most loving companion. He never found a lap on which he didn't want to rest his head. Being an older dog, he had a very difficult time adjusting to his new home; after giving him lots of love and attention, however, we were blessed as he came to trust and love us. We wish we had more time with him and his health had not been so debilitating. We miss our Smokey ever day but are comforted to know that he sleeps in peace.
